felicity-jones-1-1024Felicity Jones and Keira Knightley have received well deserved 2015 Academy Award nominations. Jones is up for Best Actress as the long-suffering wife of Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne)  in The Theory of Everything.  Knightley, a Best Supporting Actress nominee, portrays Joan Clarke, one of the World War II code breakers led by Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) in The Imitation Game.  They’re not competing against each other so they could conceivably both win. Neither is the favorite, however. Both characters are complex and help to humanize the leading men. Also British though playing American is Rosamund Pike, nominated for Best Actress in Gone Girl.
